Camping in Nilnilchik, Ak.

We took advantage of low tides and a long weekend to go camping and clamming in Ninilchik. It was alot of fun, but tiring at the same time. We came home with over 200 clams! Keith and the boys have a lot of clams to eat! We had our friends to camp with which made it all the more fun. The Perkins camped next to us and the Paynes came down and stayed a night and clammed with us the next day. Keith taught "Witherd" how to clam. It is hard work, but it can be fun finding the clams. The kids all enjoyed playing in the field behind our camp spot, flying kites and making bridges and going to the beach and clamming. They found lots of cool stuff! The wind was really strong and Keith had a big kite that really pulls you around. Keith told Cole that he could use the kelp for a kite. So he went and found a huge piece! The Eagles were abundant as normal...but it is still so cool to see them so close. The scenery is absolutely beautiful!
Our boys have been under the weather lately and I think with all our fun trips we have been taking, they were just plain worn out! We got up yesterday morning to find Luke conked out on the stairs. He told us he wasn't asleep on the stairs though....but we have proof!
We cut our camping trip short to come home and get ready for our next adventure. Virgina Beach, a wedding in Ohio, and a week in Indiana! We leave this Thursday! The boys are excited about playing in the sand.
Hope you all had a great Memorial Day!

Trip to Homer, Ak.

This last weekend we took a much needed trip to Homer to visit with our friends, the Paynes. We had so much fun. The boys were so sad about leaving. Luke said he wanted to stay there forever. Life must go on though and we wanted to leave while the Paynes still enjoyed our company. :) We got to go out fishing on a calm, beautiful day! Perfect fishing weather...We saw otters, and sea lions, too. We went down on the Spit and flew kites on the beach, had campfires and s'mores, and lots of play time on the trampoline, too. We will miss visiting with our friends when they move.

Mother's Day

MOTHERS' DAY....
IT ALL STARTED ON MARCH 9, 2004,WHEN LUKE WAS BORN.
LUKE MONTGOMERY SHUMWAY
HOW HAPPY WE WERE TO GET A BOY FIRST! HE WAS SUCH A GOOD BABY AND TODDLER. A SMART LITTLE BOY WHO "CAUGHT ON" TO THINGS VERY FAST, AND STILL DOES. HE IS NOW 5 AND HAS GROWN TO BE A GOOD HELPER. SOMETIMES HE WISHES HE COULD BE 3 AGAIN, SO THAT HE COULD TAKE A CUP TO BED. SOMETIMES HE WISHED HE COULD BE BIG AND BE A BOSS OR A DADDY. I TELL HIM TO ENJOY BEING A KID, BECAUSE LIFE GOES BY SO FAST. HE CAN WORRY ABOUT THINGS WHEN HE IS BIG, BUT NOT RIGHT NOW...HE IS ALWAYS PLANNING HIS NEXT MOVES. I GUESS THAT COMES FROM HIS DADDY.

ON JANUARY 12, 2006 CAME ANOTHER BOY!
DAWSON RILEY SHUMWAY
AND HOW DIFFERENT HE WAS/IS FROM LUKE!
HE IS OUR "FUNNY BOY", AS HE SAYS. HE ALSO TELLS ME THAT HE IS MY "FAV-IT BOY". HE CAME UP WITH THAT...BUT IT'S HARD NOT TO AGREE WITH THOSE CUTE DIMPLES AND SWEET SMILE AND CHARMING PERSONALITY. HE IS A LITTLE MORE ROUGH AND TUMBLE THAN LUKE THOUGH, BUT HE IS SCARED OF SPIDERS! YESTERDAY KEITH TOOK LUKE TO TOWN WITH HIM. WHEN THEY GOT HOME, DAWSON RAN TO LUKE SAYING, LUKIE! AND HUGGED HIM. IT WAS SO CUTE TO SEE THAT HE MISSED HIS BROTHER THAT MUCH. DAWSON ISN'T SO KEEN ON LEARNING BUT HE DOES PICK UP ON THINGS...IF HE WANTS TO. I GUESS THAT IS MORE LIKE ME.
ON APRIL 14, 2008 CAME YET, ANOTHER BOY!
KOLBY RENDON SHUMWAY
WOW! 3 BOYS...THIS SHOULD BE FUN! A TEENY, TINY, ITSY, BITSY, TEENSY, WEENSY, PART OF ME WAS SAD ABOUT NOT HAVING A GIRL, BUT NOT FOR LONG. CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT HE,TOO, IS SO DIFFERENT FROM HIS BROTHERS? NO BLOND HAIR TO START WITH..NO HAIR HARDLY AT ALL STILL! HE IS 13 MONTHS AND STILL HAS FUZZ WITH A FEW LONG WISPS OF HAIR. THE FAMILY BABY, OUR KABOOSE! WHAT A LITTLE CHARACTER HE IS! WE HAVE YET TO DETERMINE WHAT HIS TRUE PERSONALITY IS. HE SEEMES TO BE A MIXTURE OF THE OTHER BOYS. SMART LIKE LUKE AND FUNNY LIKE DAWSON WHAT A COMBINATION. THE BEST PART IS HE IS A CUDDLE BUG WITH HIS MOMMY, AND SHE LIKES THIS...:)

I LOVE MY 3 BOYS!

Luke's letter

Today I had Luke practice writing a letter. He decided to write one to me. I only helped him with a few words, but he wrote the whole thing and thought of everything to say. I was busy vacuuming while he wrote. I couldn't help but laugh when he read it to me...:)
I think his penmanship is pretty good, too. We are working on when and where to put capitals. He loves to read things to us, too.

"Thampoline thumping"

Keith and Luke have fun on the "thampoline". They try new tricks all the time. Here are a couple of them....

And one with Kolby...trying to stand...he did make it..eventually! :) He loves to go on the trampoline, too. And yes, they are still in their jammies..:)

Coastal Trail Bike Ride

We took a bike ride along the Anchorage Coastal Trail Saturday. 18+ miles! The boys were great, too. What fun we had! We started at Kincaid park and went into Anchorage to the "hot dog man". We grabbed a hot dog, then headed back to Kincaid park.
On the way into Anchorage, we stopped at a park to let the boys out and play. They had a climbing wall there that the boys had to climb. Dawson found a nice little cubby hole to relax in, too. We played for a bit there and had a snack and drinks, then hit the trail again.
It was a nice sunny day, but along the coast it got a "little bit of chilly" with the wind. Poor Luke, had goose bumps on his little skinny legs and was freezing. We changed him into Dawson's pants on the way back. That seemed to help him out, but then Dawson had on these big baggy shorts and Luke had on tight capris? Do boys wear capris? :)
The sites along the way are just "so very cool", as the boys would say.
From the mud flats to the beautiful snow-capped mountains, the multiple kinds of birds, to the planes flying out over the ocean just above our heads. From the wooded cool pathways, to the sunny open stretches of path that would allow you to see the great Alaskan landscape.
You would have to be here to really understand the beauty, I think.
Hopefully though, you can enjoy it through pictures with us.
Awww! I love spring/ summer in Alaska!
The weather has been in the upper 60's all week with nice sunny days!
I hope it lasts for a while! The days are long now , too.

We are gaining 5 min. a day and are up to 16.5 hrs of daylight. It is never really getting dark though, dusky.
Enjoy!

Snow Patch

Our last little patch of snow! Keith said it deserved a picture...lol It is actually the last of our sled hill. I had piled up snow for the boys to have a sled hill and so it was pretty packed.
